In the end it was her call, Captain’s
prerogative.
She had made a promise and by all means,
Kathryn Janeway would keep it.
The choice was easy, the Maquis to prison or
her Captaincy.
The Admiralty watched her pass through the rows
of her crew in silence.
Her face, devoid of any emotion, didn’t betray
her decision.
Slowly she walked along her senior officers.
She stopped when she reached her First officer.
His eyes questioned her silently. Nobody heard
her answer.
They only saw Kathryn smile, when she removed
the pips and put them in Chakotay’s hand.
She was free.
